Typical Paddle-Making
Workshop Itinerary:


  • Friday, 6:00 pm: Shop orientation, Select your paddle design, Select woods for your paddle, Glue together and clamp the "blank" for your paddle, Allow to dry overnight

  • Saturday, 8:00 am: Draw paddle pattern and shaping guide lines onto your paddle blank, Cut paddle into rough shape using a band saw (we'll teach you how), Starting planing down the paddle blade using hand planes and spokeshaves.

  • Sunday, 8:00 am: Finish planing and shaping the entire paddle (blade, shaft, grip), Sand the paddle using power sanders and hand sanding, Get instructions on how to varnish and finish the paddle at home.
